Tough Enough

"Tall, Dark, and Dangerous", #2

Tough Enough is the second book in M. Leighton's Tall, Dark, and Dangerous series. It revolves around Keifer Rogan, a MMA fighter who is popular for both his good looks and his right hooks. He is intrigued by Katie Rylan, a make-up artist who tries to be invisible when it comes to the outside world.

As always, M. Leighton skillfully produces a story with complicated characters and dark pasts. This book starts out as more of a contemporary romance, but the last few chapters turn into romantic suspense when Rogan meets up with his old Special Forces buddies. Even though the person they were looking for in the first book is revealed in this one, I was hoping there would be more updates on the search throughout the first part of the book. I suppose that was more Jax's responsibility, however, after the death of his mother in the previous one.

Also, I kept anticipating the moment when Ronnie got what he deserved, but it never came. Instead, he just caused more trouble, which was needed in order to tell the story, but I think there should have been some form of punishment. Another thing I didn't understand was why Katie didn't tell Mona (her best friend) about that situation. It was a big deal, one that requires input from the BFF.

Those are the only cons I found. When compared to the rest of the story, they are so minuscule, they don't even matter. I've not been much of an MMA fan, but the way the atmosphere was written in those scenes had me riled up to watch a fight, and I easily pictured it in my head. I loved the fact that Rogan gave Katie the strength to break through the brick wall she put around herself after what happened with her ex. In return, Katie gave Rogan something else to fight and live for.

Tag's story will be next in the series and I am definitely on board to read it! I recommend this to fans of M. Leighton and anyone who loves a good romance with a little kick!

Book Blurb for Tough Enough

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes the second book in a dark, sexy contemporary trilogy.

He’s a fighter who never loses, but is he tough enough to win her heart?

There was a time when I had everything–a wonderful family, a bright future. Love. But all that was taken away in a single night, torn from me like flesh from bone. Since then, I’ve hidden away in my second-choice job as a makeup artist. But I prefer it that way, actually. I’m comfortable in the shadows, where no one can see my scars.

Kiefer Rogan literally took my breath away the moment I met him. MMA champion-turned-actor, notorious playboy, charming to a fault—he’s everything I vowed to avoid.

But he just wouldn’t stop until I opened up and let him in. Maybe I should’ve tried harder to resist him. Maybe I shouldn’t have fallen in love with him. Because I, of all people, know that everyone has secrets. Scars. And that they’re usually ugly and painful and destructive to the people we love most.

I just never guessed that they could be deadly, too.
