Maxx and Aubrey's challenging love story continues in the second book of the Twisted Love series. The author provides enough information so that this book could be read as a standalone. However, I would suggest reading the series in order to get a better understanding of the relationship between the two main characters.
Once again, A. Meredith Walters unleashes a myriad of emotions with her characters. They are not perfect and that's what causes the readers to latch on to them so easily. In the first book, Maxx struggles with his drug abuse. Now, we are seeing a whole new person. He is like a Phoenix who is struggling to rise up out of the ashes of his old life. One thing that really stood out to me was the strength that Maxx possessed. He kept saying that Aubrey saved him, and in a way she did because it was all for her, but she wasn't there those times when his cravings tried to get the best of him. The author did an excellent job of showing us his constant fight against his old habit.
I enjoyed the way the story played out, although I was holding my breath on the last page of the last chapter thinking I had to wait until a new book came out to find out what happens. I didn't need to worry though because the epilogue saved the day.
Brooks was my favorite secondary character. He was fun and forgiving. I felt sorry for him because of the way things turned out. It left me hoping that A. Meredith Walters will write his story one day. If you're not afraid of a book that displays the tough stuff that no one wants to talk about, along with someone fighting for the people they love, pick this one up. I recommend it.
