Janice wasn't looking for a long-term relationship. She just wanted a fun night out. A few drinks, a little dancing, the usual. Then she met Jake. Jake was handsome and sweet. But what Janice didn’t know was that Jake was a vampire. They end up going home together and things get pretty hot and heavy. So hot infact, that in the heat of their lovemaking, Jake accidentally turns Janice into a vampire herself. Feeling bad about what he has done, Jake promises Janice he will teach her everything she needs to know about being a vampire. From how to feed to how to avoid vampire slayers. They become good friends and being a vampire doesn't seem so bad to Janice after all. One night while out for a walk, a man runs off with Janice's purse. A sexy good Samaritan helps her out and after witnessing him "stake" the purse-snatcher, she realizes that he is one of the vampire slayers Jake warned her about. Because Janice is newly turned, he can't tell she is a vampire and introduces himself as Hunter and asks her out. Finding herself very attracted to Hunter, Janice accepts. After all, she still isn't looking for anything serious, so what's the harm in having a good time? Only soon Janice starts to fall for Hunter and finds it harder and harder to keep her secret. Could Janice be falling for a slayer? And how would Hunter react if he knew Janice was a vampire? How will Jake react if he finds out she is dating a slayer?
I thought this was a great read. I really liked the character of Jake. He was very different from a lot of the vampires in other paranormal romance books. He has a really genuineness about him and I loved how he felt bad about turning Janice by accident. I also liked the idea of a vampire and slayer falling in love. I really felt for Janice as she struggled with trying to hide her secret from Hunter. This book was very enjoyable for me and I finished it quite fast as I had a hard time putting it down. I kept saying to myself "one more chapter, one more chapter". The sex scenes were very hot, so it's not for those who like the bedroom scenes "mild". I for one, love a good vampire sex scene. Overall this book had everything to entertain fans of paranormal romance. It is the first book I have read by Annmare Ortega, but I sure it will not be the last!
