Dakota Cassidy's second book in her Ex-Trophy Wives series starts out with Frankie Bennett, wife of celebrity TV chef Martin Bennett, losing it on national TV, when she finds out her husband of eighteen years has been cheating on her with a younger woman.
After divorcing Martin, Frankie retreats to her Aunt Gail's retirement village, where she spends the next 6 months hiding out and taking pity on herself. With no job and bills piling up, Frankie doesn't want to face the world.
Then she meets Maxine Barker, an ex-trophy wife herself (and the heroine of Cassidy's first novel in the series) who has started an employment agency for women like her former self and Frankie. At Maxine's urging, Frankie interviews for a job at the Greek Meets Eat diner, where she meets the owner, Nikos Antonakas, who is quite the "Greek God", himself.
Nikos just might be what Frankie needs to remind herself that she is still a hot sexy woman with a lot to offer. But is falling for Nikos so soon after leaving Martin the right thing to do?
What I love about this book is the fact it is written with a heroine over 35 and her leading man is not some "young stud", proving a romance doesn't have to be about twenty-something's. I also enjoyed the little entries from Frankie's "journal" before the beginning of each chapter. Dakota always makes me laugh when I read her books, and this was no exception.
Frankie has a lot to go through before reaching a happy ending and that's a good thing, because sometimes life really IS difficult. We get our hearts broken, we make attempts at happiness and sometimes we fail. Sometimes, we feel like we have lost everything. Sometimes we have to start all over. Having to learn to stand on our own two feet is not always easy but sometimes we need to pick ourselves up off the ground, straighten ourselves out and get back to moving forward.
As Maxine tells Frankie: "Suck it up, Princess!"
