In Like a Lion

The Chimera Chronicles, #1

Dr. Anjali Mehta starts a new job in L.A. with the Kincaid group doing research on the biological causes of anti-social behavior. Her test subject is Jake Finn who is being held in a cage by the Kincaid group as a stone cold killer. She finds herself strongly attached to Jake and wonders why he is being held.

After much research Anjali finds out that Jake is not a killer but a charisma. A changeling that can morph from man to lion to dragon at any given time. Jake’s Cherima recognizes Anjali as its soul mate and she helps Jake escape from the research facilities. They start traveling toward los Vegas where Jake has a stash so they can start a new life. But in the meantime Jakes brother has been looking for him. Jake and his six brothers have been separated throughout the country when their mother left them in foster care at an early age when she died. Jake’s brother has been dealing with his own problem as he has tried to track his brothers down and explain their heritage to them. In the midst of this Anjali is kidnaped by the Kincaid group and Jake and his brothers need to save her.

This is an outstanding beginning to The Chimera Chronicles by Karin Shah. In Like a Lion had lots of twist and turns. These twists and turns kept my interest and made this book hard to put down. It was my first time to read about a chimera. I’m looking forward to move books with this paranormal creature. Both Anjali and Jake were interesting characters and Ms. Shah has a deft hand with background information. If I had a complaint it was the number of movie references throughout the book. I quit counting at 6. It didn’t mess up the flow but was needless. I will be looking forward to more from this author as she continues The Chimera Chronicles.

Book Blurb for In Like a Lion

Research scientist Dr. Anjali Mehta lost her beloved family in an earthquake. Only her work cuts through the paralyzing grief, but when she finds her new research subject, reputed mass murderer Jake Finn, maddeningly uncooperative and inexplicably sexy she's tempted to run away. How can she burn to touch a man behind bars—a killer?

What she doesn't know is that Jake is a chimera, a shapeshifter who can change into a lion or a dragon with all the strengths of both even in human form, who believes his ability to shape shift is nothing but a terrifying hallucination and his overpowering attraction to his new doctor proof positive he’s finally gone over the edge.

And the employer she trusts has an agenda all his own. If she can't believe the impossible, neither she nor Jake may make it out alive.
