Del Mathers and Joey Dixon have graduated from university and moved to New York City. Living there, Del tries to balance his love for Joey and his gift for performing with not being out to his family - and Venus, his stage persona, was created for that very reason. Joey, meaanwhile, has his own issues to deal with - one of which is that he wishes that Del - the inspiration for his music and the love of his life - was out to his family.
If that was not enough, on the very night that would bring their dreams of making it big to fruition, Del is targeted by a group of vigilantes and winds up in the hospital. Will their dreams come true? Or will they see the future they would have liked to see built for themselves be destroyed?
Veiled Security is a a beautiful story of fulfilling your dreams, overcoming a violent attack, love and patience, and of family - both the one you are born to and the one that becomes your own through association. It is also the story of a community coming together when one of their own is in need. The story is about family coming to terms with what they might have expected and/or wanted for their child versus what their child wants and needs to do for himself - and being the stronger for it in the end. Excellent reading.
