"The Rogue's Conquest" is the first book by Lily Maxton I have read and I loved it! The story centers around two different people, who under normal circumstances would never have come together. Eleanor Townsend is not your normal lady interested in marriage, fripperies or the latest fashions. She has a scientific mind and wants to be part of the Natural Historical Society. But they only allow men in their ranks. Asked to attend to present a paper she had written, she dresses as a man and attends the meeting. Everything goes well until James MacGregor, former prizefighter sees through her disguise. James has an agenda of his own to be introduced to a rich debutante so he can move up in the ranks and finally have all he has desired. So he uses Eleanor to achieve his goal by keeping her secret. She helps him with his manners and introduction to Lady Sarah! The interaction between James and Eleanor is priceless and the sparks fly. "The Rogue's Conquest" will keep you turning the pages as quickly as you can. I actually read into the early morning to finish because I was totally intrigued!
This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I cannot wait until the next installment. I want to see beloved characters getting their own story! Well done Lily Maxton!
Former prizefighter James MacGregor wants to be a gentleman, like the men he trains in his boxing saloon. A chance encounter with Eleanor Townsend gives him the leverage he needs. She’ll gain him entry to high society and help him with his atrocious manners, and in return, he won’t reveal her secret. It’s the perfect arrangement. At least until the sparks between them become more than just their personalities clashing.
