Stay the Night : A Novel of the Darkyn
I was a little sad to pick up this book since Ms. Viehl revealed that it would be the last of the Darkyn. But all good things should end on an upswing and this is definitely that. Robin of Locksley, introduced in Evermore (one of the best books ever!!!) meets his match with FBI agent Chris Renshaw. She is on the hunt for a thief called the Magic Man and plans to use the priceless Maiden’s Book of Hours to lure him out. When it is taken by someone else, Chris is forced to team up with Robin to get it back.
So much more than that happens during the course of this book. Threads that have been weaving their way through the previous books come together. The relationship with Chris and Robin is intense and satisfying. The ending of this is still haunting me, coming to mind at odd moments. What is also very interesting is that when looked at as a whole, this series is ultimately about the two characters we started with; Alexandra and Michael. What I love about Ms. Viehl’s books is that there are layers upon layers of detail but she never goes too far. You are never tempted to skim over a single word she writes. Her descriptions are vivid and almost otherworldly.
This is a very unique series and I hope more people discover it. It is a gem in the paranormal world.
