I have been a fan of Ms. Gay’s since her debut The Better Part of Darkness. So you know it is major to say when I sat down with Shadows Before the Sun, I was completely blown away. This, the fourth installment in the Charlie Madigan series, is amazing! The writing is tight; the characters leap off the page. I was crying at one point, tears streaming down my face, and I still couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I honestly didn’t know how things were going to go from one moment to the next. Intense, emotional and original, I can honestly say this is one of the most amazing and original series in urban fantasy today!
Charlie won’t rest until she goes to Elysia and gets her partner Hank back. Hank is back in his home town, a prisoner of the Circe and they aren’t going to play nice. The Circe have an iron grip on the city and they will stop at nothing to punish Hank over and over again for escaping their control. When Sandra the Oracle steps in to help, Charlie is stunned to say the least. But desperate times call for desperate measures. When Charlie returns from Elysia, will anything ever be the same?
Between life and death lies a chasm of pain beyond imagining. . . .
Elysia may be a heavenly off-world destination, but beyond it, in the siren city of Fiallan, the Circe have punished Charlie Madigan’s partner, Hank, into a torturous state between life and death. With all the proper legal channels cleared, Charlie heads to Elysia, not knowing what she’ll find, or if she’ll ever see the siren again . . . while at home, jinn crime boss Grigori Tennin has begun an all-out hunt for the divine being Ahkneri. Tennin’s tactics set off a chain reaction that puts Charlie in the crosshairs of the shadowy creature known as Death, and stirs Ahkneri from her long sleep—and if Vengeance awakes, Atlanta will never be the same.
