The Mutant Files, #2

When Redzone arrived in my mailbox, I immediately dove back into the world of Pacifica and the Bonebreaker case. Lee is still driven to discover who murdered her father and the other cops. As the task force investigates, new murders start occurring that mimic aspects of the Bonebreaker murders. As the cases heat up, Lee becomes a target. After an injury sidelines her, Lee receives a letter from her long-lost mom who happens to be residing in the red zone. Driven to make peace with her mom, she leaves LA and ventures into the Mutant Wild West. What I love about this series is I never know what to expect. I practically got whiplash from the switch from police procedural to road trip adventure and back. The only dark spot in my enjoyment of Redzone was that there was no appearance of Lee’s partner from the first book, the mutant Omo. But that would have been too predictable. The rest of the book, when she gets back to LA, held even more surprises. I really need the next book so I can find out what happens next!

Book Blurb for Redzone

The year is 2065, almost thirty years since a bioterrorist attack decimated the population. The world has been divided, and new nations have formed. Those mutated from exposure inhabit the red zones, while "norms" live in the green zones. In the nation of Pacifica, Los Angeles detective Cassandra Lee is in charge of investigating a disturbing case, tracking a cop killer dubbed the Bonebreaker.
