What an amazing read from this new author. I was lucky enough to win a copy of Lord of the Fading Lands and was eager to dive in. By page twelve, I was hooked. I have stayed up way too late eager to see what was going to happen next. While the premise of this novel is basic, how C.L. Wilson executes it is anything but ordinary.
Rain Tairen Soul is an ancient Fey, King of his people, last of the Tairen Soul. He has kept himself isolated in the Fading Lands for the last thousand years. When last among the mortals he seared the world with flame in his grief and fury. During the Mage Wars, his heart mate was murdered by the Eld and Rain was lost to insanity. But time, a whole lot of time, has healed his wounds and his mind. He feels a darkness growing in Eld and fears that his enemies are gathering strength. To find out how to combat the Eld, Rain forces the Eye of Truth to reveal how the Fey can prevail. It reveals he must journey to Celieria and among the mortals he will find the solution. It is when he arrives that a woodcarver’s daughter calls him from the sky and he discovers the impossible, a soulmate for a Tairen Soul.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I was blown away by the ease in which Ms. Wilson brings us into her world. The descriptions are lovely and vivid without being overwhelming. Her characters are believable, actions and motivations ring true. Ellie and Rain’s courtship is very sweet. I didn’t feel like the difference in their ages was insurmountable. If you only try one debut author this year, C.L. Wilson should be the one you choose. I will be haunting the bookstore until Lady of Light and Shadow is released in November.
