Celta's HeartMates, Book 7
This is the seventh installment of the Heart series set in the magical world of Celta. Tinne, SecondSon of the Holly family has been in previous volumes and his brother, Holm was the hero in Heart Duel. Tinne knows that his HeartMate Lahsin was forced into an underage marriage and had married another for reasons other than love. They had come to love each other and were happy to announce they were to have a baby. After Genista lost the baby, their marriage fell apart. At the start of Heart Fate, Genista has requested a divorce which is unheard of in the FirstFamilies. To be granted this, they both have to go through a series of tests to discover if the marriage is truly over. Lahsin is also at a turning point in her life. She is about to become an adult by undergoing her Second Passage and is able to repudiate her marriage by declaring it to three impartial people. She runs away from her husband so he can’t imprison her and finds a hiding place until she can safely make her way out of the city. When Tinne hears the news that she has run away, he searches for her so that he can help her in any way he can. He finds her hiding place, FirstGrove which only opens itself to people in need of healing. Lahsin must come to terms with her abuse and Tinne must recover from what he sees as his failure to keep his marriage together if they are going to be happy. I look forward to each and every one of the Heart stories and Heart Fate did not disappoint. There is a deep satisfaction that comes at the end of their journey.
If you haven’t read any of the Heart books, you must do so immediately. The world Ms. Owens has created is in a word, magical. While it is a series with a continuous thread, you would not be lost if you read them out of order. What impresses me most about the books is the characters are so real, their emotions and flaws are perfectly crafted. Both characters have problems to overcome in order to be able to form a lasting bond between them. While everyone has magic at their fingertips, they still must dig deep inside themselves and work through the things holding them back. Ms. Owens is a master craftsman and I will be waiting impatiently to see what she has in store for us next!
Book Blurb for Heart Fate
Wed to a wealthy older man when she was just a girl, Lahsin Yew runs away from her abusive home to find a new life. At seventeen, she's about to enter her Second Passage, when her Flair—and perhaps her HeartMate—will be revealed.
Lahsin finds sanctuary in a secret garden, where she meets Tinne Holly. Though he is her HeartMate, he cannot tell her, and her troubled past prevents her from trusting any man. Pretending to find her by chance, Tinne helps her through her Second Passage. But when the truth is revealed, can she forgive his deception, and learn to trust in her destiny?
