I was worried when I sat down to start From Dead to Worse. I hadn't enjoyed the previous volume, All Together Dead for a variety of reasons. Ms. Harris starts out the new volume with a recap of what had happened to bring everyone up to speed. Right from the start I felt a renewed hope. Sookie's voice was very much present and I quickly wrapped myself up in the story. So much was left up in the air in the last book that there was a lot of ground to cover. Amelia is still living with Sookie as is the man/cat Bob. Bill Compton, the ex boyfriend, wants Sookie back. Eric wants Sookie and her current boyfriend Quinn is still missing. Then some Weres start turning up dead and it looks like war is coming. What will happen to the people, undead and furry alike, that Sookie cares about?
This was the thickest book yet and it is jam packed with happenings. Every page was necessary as so many things needed to be settled and I enjoyed every second of my time with this book. I read it in a day and a half. I always start out with the intention of savoring and I just gobble it down in a couple of big bites. This book was a make it or break it point for me in the series and I can honestly say that I am fully committed for the long haul. Wherever Ms. Harris decides to take us, I will gladly follow. I do hope that sometime soon Bubba will make an appearance; I just love him so!
