I was so thrilled, not to mention surprised at my good luck, to get an advanced readers copy of this book. I picked up the first book in the series, Slave to Sensation, by accident and promptly fell in love. I waited impatiently for the sequel, Visions in Heat, and devoured it in a day and a half (remarkable because my son was two and a half). With Caressed by Ice, I had a need to savor it since I didn’t know when the next book was coming (February 2008). I allowed myself a chapter or two in a sitting and made it last almost a week. And what a week it was. Just a warning, do not try to read the books out of order. There is a sub plot that runs throughout the books as well as visits with characters from previous books.
Judd Lauren and Brenna Kincaid were first introduced in Slave to Sensation. I had a feeling we would be seeing these characters again. I wasn’t sure that Ms. Singh could make a romantic hero out of one of the Psy but boy, was I wrong. Judd is the perfect alpha hero, tortured and determined to protect Brenna no matter the cost to himself. Brenna is a wonderful match to Judd; damaged but determined to move on with her life. It was very moving to see Brenna deal with being a victim and the changes it caused. What really got to me, though, was Judd. His thoughts about himself and how isolated he felt brought tears to my eyes.
Not only is Ms. Singh a master at portraying emotions, she is very adept at weaving suspense through her stories. She keeps the tension level constant; you don’t know what is going to happen next, which I love. It was wonderful learning more about the wolves, especially Hawke. I do hope we see him as the focus of a future book (PLEASE PLEASE!!)
Run, don’t walk, to the store and get this book.
Special Note: If I had to choose only a few authors whose works I could take to a deserted island, Ms. Singh would be on that list.
