Kylie's life has gotten seriously complicated. Attracted to two boys, one a werewolf and the other part Fae, she doesn't know which one she can totally trust. She still doesn't know what kind of supernatural she is which leaves her as odd man out at Shadow Falls Camp. Her affinity for ghosts is growing with an early visit every morning from one that tells her someone she loves is going to die but that Kylie can stop it. With that little information to go on, Kylie is desperate to figure out who the ghost is talking about and how she can prevent it. Can she sort all this out before summer ends and convince her mom to let her stay at Shadow Falls?
I'm a little conflicted about this book. I still love the character of Kylie. She is confused and frustrated; trying to figure out what she is and which boy she should be with. She gets scared by the changes going on in her body, her life, and her family and has to work through it. She has friends that she sometimes disappoints but she apologizes and just overall comes across as a genuine teenager. But I am not sure that I want another love triangle teen book. I know that girls and boys must go through a period where they are attracted to two or more boys at a time. But I wasn't like that or if I was it was so long ago that I can't remember. I still like the secondary characters as well as the world building. The camp and its connection to the government really appeals to me as well. Kylie and her friends all seem to embody the notion that they are kids growing into young adulthood and the mistakes you make along the way. I appreciate that they aren't all perfect. They have tempers and misconceptions but they all seem to be growing and maturing. I really like seeing that portrayed in fiction as it doesn't seem to happen very often. The ending took me totally by surprise and I am anxious to see what the next book holds! So in short, this was an enjoyable read with a refreshing cast of teenagers with a unique take on the paranormal. I do hope that Kylie's boy trouble gets resolved in the next book. My money's on Lucas, but then I have a soft spot for werewolves.
