Santorini Sunset

Caroline was devastated when she caught her fiancé and sister cheating on her behind her back but, she swallowed most of the hurt and embarrassment because she loves her gorgeous, vivacious, supermodel baby sister and wants to put on a brave face so that her sister’s wedding will be perfect. She is also incapable of refusing when asked to be Gabriella’s maid-of honor, regardless of the personal pain she hides. Caroline enlists the aide of a sexy co-worker, Raul, as her date at the nuptials. Chaos ensues as the wedding date gets nearer and absolutely nothing goes according to plan.

This book is such a fast, fun read! Caroline is a mixture of contradictions that firmly put me in her corner from the first few pages. A beautiful, talented woman in her own right, she has been overshadowed by her younger, narcissistic, vibrant sister all her life. The author buoyed Caroline by endowing her with a steady optimism and quiet perseverance that was the perfect counterbalance to most of her insecurities. It’s what made this read sparkle for me. I laughed and I sighed as Caroline slowly comes to the realization that Raul is much more than just a hired date.

Finally, Caroline’s mother, a harpy and a shrew, adds all kinds of additional conflict to the story. I loved the many confrontations between the women, and particularly liked the way in which Caroline, with Raul’s help, is finally successful in forcing the entire family into a more honest, healthier relationship.
