When her friend, Melinda Leblanc, disappeared Chloe Hanson knew something was terribly wrong, but the Sherriff and other law enforcement authorities refused to listen to her. Chloe closed her photography studio and rented an isolated house in Zapata County, Texas near where her friend disappeared. That way she can shift to her wolf form without anyone being the wiser. Chloe is determined to find Melinda, and she will let nothing derail her from that mission.
Mark Guitron has just returned to Zapata County on the trail of the elusive, and most say, mythical, ElChupacabra. The Devil Beast likes to hunt in isolated areas; Mark thinks the predator will be returning to the area because its last killing spree was interrupted. Last year the beast slaughtered Mark’s friend, Rob. This time Mark has the backing of an elite shifter group funded by billionaire, Craig Stafford, called The Night Seekers. This time the Chupacabra will be stopped.
Mark and Chloe team up to track down the Devil Beast and to search for Chloe’s missing friend. Their attraction to each other is immediate and overpowering. The sex sizzles and Mark soon realizes that Chloe and he are meant to be together – mated. She is unlike any woman he has ever known. Chloe is less sure of their future because, for her, finding Melinda has to be her top priority. She does not feel like she can move forward with her life until the mystery of Melinda’s disappearance is solved.
The chemistry between Mark and Chloe is as hot as the dry desert terrain they lope through in their relentless searches. Between them, sex becomes their release valve after long hours on the hunt. There are lots of scorching hot interludes sprinkled throughout the novel. The scenes are tastefully written and do include multiple instances of oral and anal penetration. I have one small quibble. In almost every sex scene, Mark would command Chloe “Don’t move,” while he would reach, or in some cases, race, to put on protection. It just bugged me. Where is she going to go? I just think his vocabulary could have been strengthened or better yet, let his actions do his talking for him.
There are quite a few secondary characters. I thought they were all intriguing, and they each had intelligent, well-developed supporting roles. I should mention that this is the second book in The Night Seekers series but it is complete and able to stand on its own. There are a few references to activities from the previous book, Lust Unleashed; just enough to entice and tempt. I certainly recommend this engrossing novel for mature fans that enjoy suspense and action set against a stark and desolate landscape with an abundance ofheat.
As a shifter, Mark Guitron is uniquely equipped to search for the devil beast, El Chupacabra, and stop the horrible killings. Hunting one night by moonlight, he spots another wolf whose aura tells him she is also a shifter. When he’s visited by an erotic vision of her in human form, he knows he must find her and make her his own.
Chloe Hanson is searching for a friend she’s convinced is a victim of the devil beast. When she meets Mark, she feels a primal tug that tells her they are meant to be together. As they join forces in the hunt, they soon learn that sex between them feeds a need, rather than slaking it. The multiple orgasms barely satisfy their lust for each other, and as they draw closer to their prey, their fiercest coupling is yet to come.
