Disclaimer and caveat: I would have given this 2.5 stars, but it is the second book in the series. I haven't read the first book, and I feel it might make a definite difference in how I approached this one.
There's a lot that I didn't get about Nina and Ewan's relationship because I wasn't sure how the world worked. I wasn't sure where in time I was, what was common, what was uncommon, and how the politics went. There's still parties and fancy clothes and transpos, but apparently a lot of the earth's animals are extinct, and enhancements are an issue. Since I wasn't clear on where exactly these two were coming from, what precisely was behind their conflict, a lot of what went on between them left me cold. The attempt at futuristic slang was also more disorienting than grounding - shiny fine and hyper icy got in my way rather than bringing the world and time to life. It seemed too close to what we have and yet a step removed in a way that I didn't think was necessarily believable. With our shortened attention spans, I tend to believe that language will get more clipped and not more elaborate, but who knows.
In conclusion, "Wicked Attraction" really didn't work for me, but I also believe that might not be the case for another reader who has followed Nina and Ewan's story from the start.
A female bodyguard with enhanced abilities. A billionaire playboy committed to destroying people like her. A romance they didn’t expect…
