This was a definite page-turner. Lynn Kurland does not disappoint -- although I've only read her romances before this, she takes to high fantasy with breath-taking flair. Miach is a lovable, adorable, amazingly down-to-earth man and he's the perfect foil to Morgan. Shield-maiden extraordinaire and fledgling mage, it would be worth it alone to pick the story up for her interactions with Miach. The only sour note was that I had hoped for more explanations as to why Gair went bad. There seemed to be a whole chunk of backstory lost about how the friend of Nicholas went so utterly wrong. I would also have loved more information about Droch and Lothar. I did also want more "happily ever after" -- it would have been lovely to see how Morgan and Miach ruled, not to mention their offspring.
Keep note that this is the third book in a trilogy -- I went out and bought the first two because this was just that good, but for those who haven't encountered Morgan and Miach before, considered yourself warned. The supporting cast of characters were also mesmerizing, from Turah to Sile to Runach. I cannot wait to see if there are more stories about The Nine Kingdoms. This definitely puts Lynn Kurland and her Nine Kingdoms series firmly on my buy-on-sight list.
The stirring conclusion to the "superb romantic fantasy trilogy"(Midwest Book Review) from the USA Today bestselling author of The Mage's Daughter.
Born out of "a fantasy world...too wonderful to miss" (Paranormal Romance) the Nine Kingdoms Trilogy now explodes in the fiercest battle yet as the fate of a kingdom lies with a man and woman bound by love, magic, and a legendary—and perilous—sword.
