Petr's Mate

Space Wars Book 4

Sweet, short read, if a bit too fluffy.

I liked Samantha and Petr well enough, but it seemed the usual sort of insta-love, fated attraction story, with a vague nod towards an external problem that gets solved surprisingly easy.

I was intrigued by what prompted Samantha into space, but the backstory was barely glossed over, leaving more questions unanswered than not. For someone who thinks that humanity might be extinct, she certainly doesn't spend much thought on why it happened, how it happened, and whether earth managed to send off any more survivors. In fact, nothing from before Samantha meets Petr ever really gets addressed, even things that seemed like major plot points just sort of appear and then disappear after they're used.

The aliens are surprisingly like humans, as per usual for this sort of thing, and apparently have no issues with falling straight into a relationship with someone from another time and galaxy.

And then there was the BDSM... it just comes out of nowhere, almost in a non sequitur sort of way, so it was more confusing than anything else. Samantha literally just brings it up and then it's a thing that's happening.

Petr's Mate was a fun, short read that could have done better with some more fleshing out, but it's not a bad option for a quick bedtime read.
