My Wicked Enemy
My Wicked Enemy by Carolyn Jewel was an exciting read with an interesting premise. Although it seems to follow the age-old formula of the tangled skein of love and hate -- it takes an interesting twist when Carson finds some powers of her own. I did want to have her powers explained further, that and how she managed to do what she did towards the end.
I really enjoyed the building of a new world with new concepts of mage and demons. However, it was slightly irritating to see how Carson was made out to have amazing powers that could turn the current power structure of their world on its head, and yet she very oddly still acted subservient to Nikodemus. It didn't seem to jibe with the way the story seemed to be going at hat point.
The addition of Iskander as a potential love interest cum boy toy was also more than somewhat disconcerting.
I'm hoping that Carolyn Jewel will continue in this vein of being refreshing and innovative -- I don't think the paranormal romance genre really needs another irrationally promiscuous Meredith Gentry / Anita Blake. As it stands, My Wicked Enemy is a positive page-turner, and I'll be looking for its sequel with bated breath.
