Knowing Destiny

Shifters of the Land, Sea, and Air, 2

Knowing Destiny was a quick, light read with some steam thrown in. Not bad for a quickie, if you like that sort of thing.

The world building left me with questions. There's supposedly a shifter feud, but it felt like a plot device rather than something deeper. It was glossed over, mentioned in passing and then hurriedly resolved in manner that was implausible for something of that purported magnitude.

Then there was the question of supposed conflict between the lovers and the question of choice -- as far as I could tell, there wasn't one. There wasn't much of a buildup to the love between Chase and Ariana, which meant that made the whole question of Chase choosing between Ben and Ariana a bit laughable. Ben and Chase felt like there was actually a little more something there, but Ben's epiphany felt forced and then the resolution came too fast for him to actually act on it, which diminished its force. As for Chase, I'm not sure what he was doing other than walking around with blinders on. Ariana's choosing to go into supposed enemy territory to ask a question about someone else's mating situation also just struck me as the height of silly. They have cars. Couldn't mail or telephone or something else have worked, all things considered? Then everything magically gets solved with a few questions and everyone goes home to a happily ever after.

In closing, not bad if you just want some light-hearted fun and a bit of plot to go with your steam but readers looking for more are likely to come up empty handed.
