Bound by Hades #1

This was a sweet read and interesting read.

I enjoyed seeing the worldbuilding unfold, with an intriguing take on demons, angels and the forces that work for the side of good and evil.

Theo is just a big, sweet teddy bear, albeit one with a very scary side. I loved how sure he was of his convictions and of doing things according to his moral compass. He knew what he wanted and he cleaved to it and never wavered.

Sadie I had mixed feelings on. Whereas I'm glad on one hand that she is so very kick-ass and that she is capable of keeping up with Theo, I felt like her ability to change and absorb what was going on strained my ability to believe. Also, there kept being this mention of her being a genius, yet I never really saw any evidence of that as most of her badass side came through in her ability to fight. That was frankly kind of disappointing when so much mention was made of her being super smart. I felt like she was coming across as super perfect in every way, especially with what happened to her after she began changing. It made it hard to really resonate with her as a character.

I enjoyed the story, but to be honest, I never truly got a sense of urgency over what was happening. I'm not sure why that was, perhaps it was because the characters all seemed a little too perfect, a little too competent, a little too on top of things even when they claimed not to be. The big bads were almost caricatures in how terrible they are and almost all of the main characters, with the exception of Halena, were almost too good to be believed. It made for an interesting balance.

Overall, an enjoyable read and I would probably be interested in picking up the following books to see how the story unfolds.
