Accidentally leaked sex video, cosplay, gaming geeks equals lots of steamy fun, right?
Unfortunately, not quite.
I was expecting something a little more light-hearted, a little more fun, and a little more ...romantic. What I actually got was the crazy supervisor from Hell who makes the devil who wears Prada look like an angel and a lot of "oh honey" moments.
Jordan really wasn't a likeable character for about 60% of the book. He was vicious to April and although he has just cause for what she did and the damage she caused, it just didn't give me the warm and fuzzies. As for April, I'd thought that it was a hookup that happened after a meet-cute and that she was a gamer girl and that the video leak was an accident... so when I found out that she wasn't a gamer girl and that she had just randomly hooked up with someone and filmed herself having sex with a stranger without said stranger's consent... It was disappointing and I started having my "oh honey no" moments.
Then they started working together and hoo boy. The chemistry between Jordan and April was steamy, sure, but I just couldn't like the fact that she was compounding everything that was going on with the genius move of being inappropriate with her boss from Hell. I wanted to sit her down and tell her "honey, you shouldn't be having inappropriate moments with someone who could mess up your internship and your future and especially not when that person is a total tool to you".
Sure, Jordan had his moments and April does eventually learn to stand up for herself, but I felt a lot of it was too little too late. Jordan's grand gesture at the end also left me a bit cold because, well, he left it for a bit too late and I just wasn't impressed at that point. He didn't stand up for her at the crucial point in my opinion.
For the Win wasn't bad, but it just didn't do it for me, but that's probably because of misaligned expectations. As a gamer, I was looking forward to reading about hot gamer guys and intelligent gamer girls and...welp. Didn't quite happen that way.
