Ever After

His Choice - Carrie Ann Ryan: 2.5 stars

This story suffered from chronic telling and not showing, which made it hard to really get into the character's minds. The conflict felt contrived and I ended up simply not really feeling it at all.

Beasts of Burden - Marie Harte: 3 stars

Sometimes I feel like Marie Harte's stories have a bit of a grab-bag feel. When it's good, it's very, very good and when it's not...

I didn't feel like Eira or her mates were adequately fleshed out. All I really saw was Eira snubbing them and being a brat and them at first being long-suffering and then sex and then the story ended. I would have loved to have seen a little more character development and interaction and possibly just a little more world-building. The heated spicy bits weren't even as well-done as they usually are -- the sex felt rushed and perfunctory, which was frustrating.

Alpha Rising - Rebecca Royce: 3.5

I enjoyed this. It was short, sweet and to the point. There was excitement, danger and character banter and sarcasm. It also did a good job of making me want to learn more about the world and the characters by hinting at the larger plot.

A Rebel's Heart - Lia Davis: 3 stars

This was also sweet, but there wasn't quite as much to sink my teeth into. Mostly the conflict felt contained within the story, which was unfortunate because it didn't lead me to seek out the other books. Also, Sarah and Damian were nice enough, but I didn't really click with them as I didn't really feel like I got a good handle on them other than "good, nice people". Pleasant enough read, but fairly forgettable.

Destined for Eden - Leia Shaw: 4.0

This was the best out of the lot. I really liked Eden's sass and Dalton was sweet and protective. The world was interesting and I liked how Eden could hold her own without resorting to the usual alpha-female strong-arm tactics. I would be interested in seeing more in this world and hopefully with more Eden and Dalton.
