Something Wicked is an intense saga from start to finish; it picks up where Wicked Lies left off: keeping the characters with paranormal ancestors in the forefront! This story is strong as the characters are well-crafted from the beginning. This novel reminds me of the style Victoria Holt engaged her readers (in terms of atmosphere and in romance). If you like dark atmospheres, premonitions, murders and love affairs, you will love this plot.
At the beginning Catherine, at Siren’s Song, receives some chilling premonitions of death. She’s worried about her sister, Mary, so Catherine goes to Mary’s island and discovers Mary’s body with a knife stuck in it. Catherine is filled with mixed emotions as she lied to everyone about Mary’s death many years before, and now needs Mary’s coffin space to lay Mary’s body.
Then there is Detective Savannah Dunbar of the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Department who is three weeks shy of her delivery date. Her baby was created by artificial insemination using her brother-in-law’s (Hale Bancroft) sperm as her sister (Kristina Bancroft) could not get pregnant. She is working one last case before going on maternity leave; however, she finds more questions than answers when it comes to the Donatella murders. There are cover-ups within cover-ups and only Savannah can delve into the realm of falsehoods (with the help of the Colony at times) to come up with the truth about who is behind the Donatella murders.
There is plenty of action and moments of reflection for all to enjoy. While this novel seems like a standalone, there are some issues that play out in a manner indicating another novel in this series is possible. Also, the authors indicated they haven’t run out of steam for this saga, which bodes well for readers.
You Sense Him
Some refer to it as the Colony. To others, it's a cult. But few locals in the Oregon coastal hamlet of Deception Bay have ever been invited to the inner sanctum of Siren Song. Even the sisters who live here, far from strangers who might recoil at their unnerving psychic abilities, don't know all the terrors buried within its walls. . .
You Fear Him
Eight months into a surrogate pregnancy for her sister, Kristina, Detective Savannah Dunbar just wants to wrap up paperwork before taking medical leave. But her department's investigation into a brutal double homicide has suddenly become much more complex--and personal. And now there are disturbing rumors about the Colony, its matriarch, and a long history of bitter secrets...
But You Can Never Stop Him
Death has come to Siren Song before. But this time there will be no refuge and no remorse. For everything born in wickedness must die that way--and a killer will not rest until he has claimed them all. . .
Praise for Wicked Lies
