Grace and Dignity

The Ark of the Sacred Scrolls, #1

This is a solid story and I enjoyed it. I read the acknowledgments and it says it's based on the idea of a board game. There are plays on words, and the "puzzles" are cute. There is even a section in the back listing the characters and the glossary. I'd say based on the tone, this novel is meant for young adult readers. It is a fun novel to go through, but it has a lot of light-hearted moments even in the face of tragedy.

On the day of Prince Dignity and Princess Grace's wedding, tragedy struck: the prince is murdered! All over the country, people are struck in horror as this was THE fated couple. Instead, Princess Grace dies heartbroken, and the wicked cousin takes over the country reversing all the good and making everything into bad or worse conditions.

Then, a miracle occurs: Princess Grace is NOT dead! And Prince Dignity is only missing. Now, Princess Grace must solve the various clues and hides away from the cousin as she searches for her lost prince. The cousin tries to make a power play to get the kingdom further into his clutches before Princess Grace can find her true love: Prince Dignity.

This is a very, very sweet story, with many jokes and word plays to keep the reader interested in finding what happened to the prince. This is a light read, and while it is the first book in the series, I cannot figure out where the next book is headed. The character development is crafted to reflect how lighthearted this novel is. At times this reader felt it was too cloying with sweetness and had to put it down as it takes a clear head to absorb the various tools this author employs to create such a thorough work into opposites.

Book Blurb for Grace and Dignity

Princess Grace and Prince Dignity, a royal couple with mystical powers, are set to be crowned king and queen of the magnificent Kingdom of Love. But on the eve of their coronation, disaster strikes, and Grace is told her prince has been murdered. Grief-stricken, the princess reportedly dies of a broken heart, and the shocked kingdom falls into the eager hands of Dignity’s unscrupulous cousin, Prince Denial. Months later, however, Grace is found alive with a gap in her memory, a loss of her powers, and a mysterious Pig Latin note suggesting Prince Dignity is very much alive. As she searches for her prince throughout the rundown kingdom, Grace stumbles upon an ancient secret known as the Cosmic Source—a powerful force which promises to revive her mystical powers and lead to an exciting new way of living. But with the crown title “throne” for a loop, the future of the Kingdom of Love hangs upon the prince’s Dignity. Find out if True Love conquers all in this mystical, linguistical tale!
