An outstanding novel about werewolves, vampires and zombies takes the reader by surprise. Ms. Haines twists her plots and subplots into knots leaving the reader begging for more in every chapter she writes. Great action mixed with moments of normalcy make this story of intrigue all the more interesting.
At the beginning Shiarra is in New York with her vampire master, Royce, where the pressing question of what is happening to her body is not fully answered. She gets ill, but when she starts to feel better trouble arises. So Royce sends her to Los Angles to be “protected” by another vampire, Clyde Seabreeze, who promptly puts Shiarra and her PI partner, Sara (also sent by Royce), to work to discover who is making zombies and killing his people.
Sara and Shiarra rise to the task of finding out who is making zombies and sending them to infest Clyde’s area. Along the way, Shiarra and Sara meet up with some White Hats, manage to keep a promise by safely delivering cookies to Goliath (werewolf) and resulting in friendship with him and his kin. Shiarra also discovers Sara’s problem along the way and aims to rid her of this secret pain as well. In the end, Shiarra and Sara plots with the White Hats and Goliath to rid the city of a necromancer, his zombies, and a vampire or two in the process.
Forsaken by the Others is a series novel. Serious at times this story has enough moments of humor to keep it evenly balanced making this an addicting novel in an ever-increasing addicting series. And Ms. Haines does this by keeping everything up in the air from start to finish until the last minute. By the end of the novel, you’ll be howling for more as you’re sucked dry of laughter and suspense: a combination well worth having.
The Others—vampires, werewolves, things that go chomp in the night—don’t just live in nightmares anymore. They’ve joined with the mortal world. And for private investigator Shiarra Waynest, that means mayhem…
Have a one night stand with a vampire, and you can end up paying for it for eternity. P.I. Shiarra Waynest, an expert on the Others, knows that better than most. Yet here she is, waking up beside charismatic vamp Alec Royce with an aching head…and neck. Luckily, Shia has the perfect excuse for getting out of town—namely, a couple of irate East Coast werewolf packs who’d like to turn her into a chew toy.
On Royce’s suggestion, Shia temporarily relocates to Los Angeles. But something is rotten—literally—in the state of California, where local vampires are being attacked by zombies. Who could be powerful enough to control them—and reckless enough to target the immortal? Following the trail will lead Shia to a terrifying truth, and to an ancient enemy with a personal grudge…
