Death, Taxes, and Peach Sangria

Death & Taxes Series, #4

Wow! What other words can describe when a book takes command and drags the reader into a vortex called the ravages of life as IRS Special Agent in Criminal Investigations, Tara Holloway? Don’t pick up this book expecting to kill time prior to an appointment as you’ll be late. Great action, screwball comedy similar to the misfortunes of Stephanie Plum, and relationship dynamics entertain the reader from start to finish. Whatever you do, I advise not reading this anywhere near an airport as the drama (or is it a list of comical errors?) is very realistic in some scenes.

This book starts with a recipe for Peach Sangria, relationship woes, and Tara Holloway. She and her partner, Eddie, are assigned to bring in a few illegal income tax preparers (commonly called scam artists). There are a few minor incidents, but all in all, nothing she and Eddie couldn’t handle, until they are assigned to check a bunch of money transmitters. Someone is aiding international terrorists by sending them funds. They have three suspects (one missing a tongue) in custody, tons of money transactions to compare, and a list of potential wrongdoers to cross off.

Nonstop comedy involving the trials and tribulations of love, taxes, and guns is thoroughly explored. If you haven’t read any of the other Tara Holloway novels, don’t be concerned. This is the fourth book in the series, but it works great as a standalone too. Ms. Kelly has outdone herself in this novel. She already has the fifth story in the works, so don’t despair when you finish the book as more is yet to come.

Book Blurb for Death, Taxes, and Peach Sangria

When it comes to exposing tax fraud, Tara and her partner Eddie are really cleaning up. From their brilliant takedown of the disappearing “Tax Wizard” to their perfectly planned downfall of the “Deduction Diva,” they’ve earned the respect of their peers at Criminal Investigations. Now Tara’s ready to celebrate with an ice-cold pitcher of peach sangria—even if her next case is totally the pits…

Tara’s looking forward to a challenge but, back at the office, everyone’s looking for love. Her boss Lu “The Lobo” Lobozinski and office virgin Josh Schmidt are signing up for an online dating service, and—to Tara’s dismay—so is her crush, Special Agent Nick Pratt. Tara’s trying to act chill. But when she learns that her next case involves cash-funneling to terrorists, it’s not just her love life that’s on the rocks. It’s her life, period.
