Crime and Catnip

A Nick and Nora Mystery, #3

This is another great Nora and Nick read! The writing is fresh and the mysteries are different. While it wraps up nicely, there is evidence of another novel in the works, so if you enjoy this novel, don't despair! This is novel is part of a series, but Ms. LoTempio does a great job ensuring this read can stand alone.

Nora Charles is involved in catering for the Cruz Museum's gala when she is asked to look into the disappearance of Violet Crenshaw's niece. Everything is going along nicely when she realizes she hasn't heard much from Nick other than a few strange postcards. Her adopted pet, also named Nick, is a smart cat who aids Nora in her quest to find out about Violet's niece.

Along the way there is murder, mayhem, and solving these mysteries may cost Nora more than she likes. The major mystery centers around a book which some people try to steal. In the process, Nora discovers how valuable the book is and why people are after it. Nick is the one who cracks the postcards first and also foils an attack on Nora at one point. This cat is one smart cookie who knows where his loyalty lies!

This novel was a good story from start to finish (including the recipes in the back). Ms. LoTempio does an excellent job juggling the various mysteries. She does leave one mystery to solve in another novel, but does so in such a manner that it complements the rest of the ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. The characters were believable and smart. Ms. LoTempio does and outstanding bid for intelligence in her novel and it pays off handsomely. So if you want to try something a little different in the mystery section this novel is sure to enrapture you to the end.
