Once again Ms. Cass makes murder, cat, and a reading bookmobile a killer hobby! Her characters sparkle with wit and generosity that never grows old. This is the perfect book to read when one has a few minutes. There are new characters and new dilemmas. And some of them will have unexpected consequences.
For Minnie Hamilton opening the library is never a deadly occasion, except this time, when she comes across Andrea Vennard's dead body. Minnie is surprised, but not nearly as much as when a minor crime wave occurs. There's several businesses affected, even the library's bookmobile ends up in shambles.
Along the way Minnie wonders what the killer is after. She makes a new friend along the way; this is someone who needs a friend like Minnie in her life. Minnie is also busy wondering who the new library director will be (everyone wants it to be her), while she is busy trying to make a better impression than she did with the last candidate. In any case, it's never a dull moment whenever Minnie is involved and this time, Minnie might not be able to figure it all out before the killer finds what he/she is after.
Laurie Cass is a terrific writer who has enabled her characters to grow and change naturally. She makes an effort to keep the time between books short in that the reader is returned to the next season with only a few weeks having gone by since the last murder was committed and there is a ton of changes about to take place. I suspect some of what will happen in this book will have some funny consequences in future novels. In any case, I'm already waiting for 2017, just so I can read her next novel. I expect the wait to be worth it just like always!
The national bestselling author of Pouncing on Murder returns as librarian Minnie Hamilton and her rescue cat Eddie discover there’s a true crime story unraveling in their own nonfiction section. . . .
Early one morning while shelving books in the library, Minnie stumbles upon a dead body. Authorities identify the woman as an out-of-towner visiting Chilson for her great-aunt’s funeral. What she was doing in the library after hours is anyone’s guess . . . but Minnie and Eddie are determined to save the library’s reputation and catch a killer.
As rumors about the victim circulate through Chilson, the police are in a bind over a streak of baffling break-ins. Luckily, Minnie and Eddie are traveling the county in their bookmobile, and they'll stop at nothing to find the spineless killer before the final page is turned on someone else.
