A yummy read all the way to end! Ms. Mckinlay does an outstanding job making murder tasteful with every page. The characters are well developed for the series, yet this novel can read as a standalone as well. Even with murder in the forefront, humor is not too far behind from finding the body to getting in touch with the ex-fiancé.
Melanie Cooper is asked by an old college chum to do a delivery of caramel cupcakes as a tasty way to dump a fiancé for marrying her for her money. This would effectively erase an old college debt that Melanie owes Diane Earnest; and Melanie wants to get that debt eliminated! Sadly, when Melanie confronts the man it is with shock to find out he is dead. And the police are looking at Diane as their suspect.
If that wasn't bad enough, Melanie's partner at the cupcake shop (Angie) is getting married soon. Not soon enough for everyone as Angie is cracking under the pressure and becoming a bridezilla! Mel is trying to track down the real killer while at the same time soothe Angie's stress from all the bridal decisions she's making. And time is running out for Diane as the police keep trying to pin this murder on her.
This novel was a delight to read. There are recipes in back, which I'm dying to try as they sound delicious! As far as the plot goes it was tricky in spots as I kept trying to figure out who killed Mike Bordow and why. And the debt Melanie owes has a bit of twist to it too, which I found amusing. All in all a great relaxing read for this summer. And the recipes seem like fun to make as well. Enjoy!
