Be My Texas Valentine

I love anthologies as they are an opportunity to "interview" authors one may not have experienced. With more than a couple of opportunities in each book, one has a high probability of discovering a new author, or try out a new direction an established author is experimenting. Can anything be better than discovering not one or two new authors, but four authors who bring a Texas welcome (and perhaps a longhorn or two) to this book? Folks, I was lucky; I scored with each story I read. I admit I'm not into farm/country stories (perhaps it's because I spent 20 years on a farm), but these were different. One story was "Loving Miss Laurel." This story is the one about a woman who competes against the Mayor (and half the town) for a library. I also found and liked the historical note which followed the story. Not as many fictional, historical stories provide that extra care, especially on an anthology.

If things could be diverse, then "Sweet Talk" was a story which fulfilled my expectations. The birds grabbed my attention, but the situations between the characters kept me grounded. If I had a complaint it was "Sweet Talk" was a little sweet at times. As for "The Valentine's Curse," I enjoyed how alike some people are even when they meet under forced conditions. In this story, I had a couple of chuckles (including the main characters' initial "dance" session). The only story I didn't attach to readily, was the "Cupid's Arrow." It's not due to the quality of the story, or even how well developed the story is. I can't stand controlling behaviors, liars, and cheats. I'll let you decide how any of this has to do with "Cupid's Arrow."
