Mirror Maze

This was an interesting story. I didn't care so much for the era (Victorian) because it left the characters a bit stiff with their speech and ideas. Still, overall it was a fast paced book with a lot going on; demons, ghosts, evil, curses, romance. The story focused on Jacob Aldridge and the woman he believes is the doppelganger of his dead fianc‚e, Livia Aram. Two more major characters are introduced, Jacob's sister Cecily and a mysterious Dr. Chang, who help fight the demons; also Cecily's missing husband who just happens to have supernatural powers. Although the story was packed with nonstop events, it did seem to drag in places, and the characters remained a bit more formal than what I liked.

Still, for those who like danger and horrors, a darker paranormal romance than the norm, this is a good book to try. Jacob and Livia are very brave in what they are forced to face, and the other characters make the story fuller with their actions and help. Be prepared for a "not-so-normal" ending, with surprises that might shock as the true depth --and-- true purposes of some of the characters are revealed.

Book Blurb for Mirror Maze

This is a stunning debut novel filled with ghoulish mysteries, romance and adventure. Jacob Aldridge is still utterly devastated by the death of his fiancee when he suddenly encounters her doppelganger. Livia Aram's uncanny resemblance to the late Rhoda Carothers so transcends coincidence that Jacob becomes obsessed with her. The intensity of his passion terrifies her until her compassion is roused by his desperate plight. A demon is stalking him, a succubus-like entity that feeds on human pain and desire. With the help of Jacob's sister, Cecily, and Livia's guardian, the mysterious Dr. Chang, can they overcome the demon before all is lost?
