Golden Chariot

Dark Waters Book 1

Hoping to prove her theory, nautical archeologist, Charlotte Dashiell, uses questionable connections to become part of a team recovering expensive artifacts from a ship sunk off the coast of Turkey. When a man guarding the site is murdered, the Turkish government worries black-market thieves are to blame, and Charlotte comes under fire as a suspect.

Atakan Vadim, an archeologist in his own right, is the Turkish agent sent to investigate. He and Charlotte become dive partners and friends. His gut tells him Charlotte is innocent, and he puts his job on the line by allowing her to stay.

While Charlotte desperately looks for evidence to support her theory, Atakan's investigation gets underway. Charlotte, whose family is in law enforcement, wants to help him solve the murder and stop the smugglers, but Atakan tells her to back off.

What happens when using Charlotte as bait is the only way to catch the murdering thieves?

Set in Turkey at a nautical archeological recovery site, Golden Chariot is plenty interesting. Add to the plot Charlotte, an intelligent, headstrong American; Atakan, a reserved, intense Turkish investigator; a murderous villain you will love to hate; and you have pure entertainment.

As with her other books, Chris Karlsen has impeccably researched her topic. Golden Chariot is engaging and full of information and insight. I thoroughly enjoyed this smart, well-written story and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

The rare discovery of a ship sunk during the time of the Trojan War has been found off the coast of Turkey, near Troy. Charlotte Dashiell is an American nautical archaeologist and thrilled to be part of the recovery team. The wreck may contain proof of her highly controversial theory about the Trojan War.

Charlotte is present when the Turkish government agent assigned to guard the site is murdered. Her possible involvement and a questionable connection to a private collector of black market relics bring her under suspicion. Atakan Vadim is the Turkish agent sent to investigate her. Unknown to either of them, the smuggler behind the murder plans to steal a valuable artifact and frame Charlotte for the theft...after they murder her.
