Cassie Whittington is a fifty-something woman whose had a single seven-year relationship. In fact she and her ex, Charley, are still good friends, just not lovers.
When she begins dating her boss Sam, Charley gets suspicious that Sam is gold digging since Cassie is set to inherit a big bundle of money.
Meanwhile, Cassie stumbles onto a murder scene and it turns out one of her best friend's fiance, TJ, is a strong suspect. He, too, could be considered a gold-digger since her best friend is also loaded.
Cassie, worried that her friend is marrying a murderer, begins poking around. It turns out several people would have benefitted from the victim's death and the perpetrator isn't thrilled by Cassie's curiosity. Will the case be solved and the culprit be put behind bars before more people get hurt?
Foxgloves, Fancy Fungus, and Fatal Family Feuds is rich with deep relationships and a tangled mass of subplots. We have Sam who is jealous of Cassie and Charley's relationship. There's Cassie herself who's unclear as to her own emotions, there is Cassie's familial ties to Charley's family and her own horrible past.
As far as the mystery goes, deceit, greed and manipulation play a role. As Cassie tries to sort the good guys from the bad, she constantly feels ambiguous, much like real life! I enjoyed this book and liked the fact it had a character with a disability.
Cassie Whittington's inheritance of fifteen million dollars has been put on hold while vengeful family members contest the will. But the potential loss of wealth is the least of her worries -- her ex-husband has re-entered her life and is wrecking havoc on her relationship with Sam Barlow, her boss at the landscape company. Cassie has to make a choice: return to her old life with Charlie or start a new life with Sam. An added complication is a police investigation involving Livvie, Cassie's dearest friend, and Livvie's fiance, who is accused of murdering the head chef at a prestigious local restaurant. Truffles and treachery may combine, preventing Cassie from making any choices ever again....
