Winter Igniting is the 5th book in author Rebecca Zanetti’s Scorpius Syndrome science fiction romance series. The main reason why I love this romance series is the worldbuilding. It’s a complex world as the heroes and heroines have to deal with dangers from a variety of people and threats within their environment, which seem to come at them from every direction. This means that this science fiction romance series could go on for as long as the author provides us with new couples to root for to survive this harsh environment.
The main danger in this book has been present throughout the Scorpius Syndrome series. The survivors made great sacrifices to create a compound to stand their ground. Instead of everyone being grateful to work together as a team, there was a fraction that took a section of the compound by armed force and hid behind potentially brainwashed pregnant women and innocent children. Because the heroes have been dealing with so many other problems and extreme villains, this situation was finally addressed in book 5 when readers are totally ready for them to storm the doors and release the women and children. Damon Winter and April Snyder are the perfect people to go undercover to infiltrate this cult. Damon is a former police officer who uses his detective skills to break down the cult’s defenses. April is a child caregiver who recently lost her own child and will do anything to protect the little ones caught up in this mess. They make a strong romance book pair.
When I encourage my friends to give the Scorpius Syndrome series a chance, I always tell them it’s like the first season of the Walking Dead but at least the survivors get a little romance.
His only goal was survival until he met her...
With nothing to lose, former cop Damon Winter agrees to an undercover op, infiltrating a cult in the dangerous post-Scorpius world. After one look at his new partner, he knows she belongs far away from not only the cult, but from him. She's sweet and kind and has no business being in peril, but she's determined to help. Suddenly, the part he's playing as her man explodes into a passion neither of them had expected.
She hadn't purposefully faced risk until she met him...
April Snyder has survived loss, pain, and uncertainty. Now she's ready to live again. There's nothing left but to make a difference for others, so why not go undercover in the cult? Now all she has to do is keep it professional and ignore her handsome, deadly, overbearing partner, who's too sexy for her peace of mind. Intrigue, risk, and danger make for an irresistible temptation--until enemies close in, threatening everyone they've sworn to protect.
