Getting Dumped, Part 1, by Tawna Fenske is JJ Schultz’s amusing journey from leaving a desk job to finding love and happiness at the landfill. No seriously, you have to read this story.
This book will make you think about recycling, not in an I-want-to-save-the-world-so-I-should-recycle-my-soda-cans way, but readers will want to visit their local landfill and crush a couch with a massive compactor. Also, if you wanted to know about high-end handbags, this book will give you enough buzz words to fake a conversation with even a Gucci devotee.
As readers have fewer options for local bookstores and are turning to the internet for their novels, authors are getting creative to find readers. Tawna is setting herself apart from the pack with this style of e-book: readers will get the chance to select a scene between three candidates to be JJ’s hero.
1) Daniel, her on-again, off-again boyfriend who hides behind a company dating policy to deny knowledge that they are dating.
2) Collin, a British import who knows how to take advantage of his sexy accent but might have ulterior motives behind getting to know her more away from work.
3) Pete is movie star gorgeous, appropriate since he just starred in a straight-to-video zombie action flick but gave up show business for a steady paycheck and benefits from a county job.
I envy her dilemma. Please note that I had a reviewer pdf copy so I didn’t test the logistics of what a multi-option scene will like on an e-reader but the concept is cool and I like all three of her options.
This is one of those fabulous times when the cool book cover matches the great story told on the pages. I can’t wait to read Part 2 even though I still don’t know which guy I think should get a Happily Ever After with our pink hard hat wearing and knock-off handbag sleuthing heroine.
Getting Dumped Part 1 is the first installment of an Active Fiction series from Coliloquy. Instead of just watching the story unfold, readers help influence future books by giving their feedback on the heroine's romantic choices.
Losing a cushy marketing job only to end up driving heavy equipment at the landfill would be a tough blow for most women, but not JJ Schultz. She gamely swaps office politics for a chance to crush garbage. But when JJ and her sister, Lori, uncover a counterfeit handbag ring, JJ finds herself unraveling a sinister plot in the company of a tie-tugging accountant, a straight-to-video action hero/secretary, a suspicious but sneaky-hot engineer, and a host of other characters with questionable hygiene and morals.
Tawna isn't sure who JJ should end up with, so she's letting her readers choose. She'll see the aggregate statistics from Part 1, so the more you read, the more you'll influence her.

This series was originally released and reviewed as a two part book. It has now been merged into one book.
