This is definitely the Phantom of the Opera as you have never seen it or in this case read it before. This book has me at odds with myself over what I should rate it, because parts of this book I absolutely loved!( the love story between Christine and Erik is absolutely breathtaking) And would give a 4 or even higher. But then there is a much darker side to this book as well and had me cringing and were rather disturbing to me and made me want to rate it much lower.
I caution you this is not your mother's Phantom and has some very graphic scenes described in very specific detail including several scenes of group sex. And I felt personally that there was several bouts of inconsistency with the characters. while Christine clearly loves Erik and again this is the part of the book I really liked, (it was very touching at times and would almost bring a tear to your eye). She would then let herself be pulled in by Raoul and to me that just didn't ring true if she truly had the kind of feelings for Erik as she stated having in the book and the things she said and then did, didn't match up at times either.
I have always loved the Phantom of the Opera and like the author states had always wanted her to end up with Erik and save him from himself. And while that does happen in this book at the end I still have very mixed feelings about this one. I could understand in the play and in the movie how she would have feelings for Raoul and be torn between the two but in this one it's a different story completely he was just horrid.
So in the end I would have given it a 4 or 4.5 had it just been the parts with she and Erik and left some of the more torrid sequences and the group sex out.
One of the world's most beloved stories as it has never been told before, Unmasqued is a novel of breathtaking historical erotica.
His exquisite obsession...
Christine DaaZ heard rumors of the hideous Phantom said to haunt the great Opera House in 19th-century Paris. But its youngest and brightest star knows something no one else does-the truth. For in the darkness she thrills to the deep velvet timbre of his arousing voice, and quivers to the soft strokes of his leather-gloved fingers. He is real. Her inspiration. Her Musique d'Ange. Her liberator.
Her erotic awakening...
Condemned to the catacombs below, Erik has desired his obsession from the shadows, careful to keep his identity, and his secret, in the dark. Only he understands Christine's extraordinary talents and her beauty. Only he can pleasure her like no man has before. But his sensual power comes with a price-and a risk to everyone who stands between them. For Christine too is succumbing to her most forbidden and dangerous desires-and to the Phantom who's making them all come true.
