This is the third in Kerrelyn Sparks Love at Stake series that began with How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire back in 2005. This book centers on the drop dead (pardon the pun) sexy Scottish vampire Angus Mackay that is also the head of Security for Roman Draganesti. Angus is a character that we have seen throughout the series and I was so excited to get to finally hear his story and I was not disappointed. The Stake out team that has been giving Roman and the rest of the vampire's grief are at it again and now one of them is killing vampires! This is threatening the tenuous peace between the good vamps and the malcontents. And little does the slayer - Emma Watson know that she is fast pushing the vampires into what could be all out war. Angus and his team are out to find out which of the Stake out team is killing the vampires and from the moment that Angus stares into the proud and brave eyes of Emma he knows that he has just found the kind of woman that he has longed for.
But fate and vampires haven't been kind to Emma and she hates all vampires with a fiery passion - "the only good vampire is a dead vampire," she says. But what happens when the thing that she hates the most is suddenly also the very thing that she desires.
As you can probably already tell I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I hated to see it end. Mrs. Sparks is a wonderful and truly talented story teller that has created a very unique and entertaining vampire tales. And in a genre with so many books about vampires and vampire hunters she manages to pull of something completely fresh and different. Mixed with wonderful romance and laugh out loud humor as well as touching sequences. (This one even made me cry. where can I find my own Angus?)
I can't wait for the next in the series!
If it was still beating. Angus MacKay has been undead for almost five hundred years and it's not often something, or someone, surprises him. Until Emma Wallace. The sight of this luscious agent from the CIA's elite Stake-Out team was enough to stop Angus in his tracks. But then he discovers that she's a vampire slayer, intent on killing the "monsters" who killed her parents. And it's Angus's job to stop her.
The only good vampire is a dead vampire. It's been Emma's motto since she committed her life to the destruction of these things. Now Angus MacKay wants to convince her differently.
Sure, he's a sexy Highland warrior who seems to have stepped off the cover of a romance novel, complete with brogue, kilt, and sword, but he's also one of them. And it's her job to kill him.
The war is on, but will it end in the destruction of one or both of them . . . or in total surrender to a passion for the ages?
