Leila was the victim of a terrible accident as a teenager that has left with amazing capabilities. She can harness electricity but is unable to touch those around her for fear of shocking them as well as being able to see people’s darkest secrets. After one chance encounter, Leila’s abilities are brought out into the open and she is now being hunted by vampires that want to use her to find the most infamous vampire of all.
Vlad Tepesh is the vampire behind all the legends and over the years has acquired many enemies. His abilities to control fire rival that of Leila’s and he isn’t affected by her shocking abilities when they touch. When the two meet, Leila can’t help but be attracted to Vlad and believes that she may have finally found someone who understands the turmoil she has been through. But someone from Vlad’s past will use everyone close to him, including Leila, to destroy the infamous vampire and put an end to his reign.
I have always been a big fan of Jeaniene Frost’s “Night Huntress” series and I jumped on the chance to read this. I wasn’t disappointed because this book was very hard to put down. First of all, Vlad is such a great character. We were first introduced to him in the “Night Huntress” series and he definitely lives up to his namesake. He is gorgeous, charming, cunning and extremely seductive. He doesn’t let people get too close to him because he is afraid to lose them because he has people looking to destroy him. When he takes Leila into his home and soon into his bed, he does it knowing that he is possibly putting her in harms way. He doesn’t care because he has met his match in more ways than one and can’t help the attraction that he feels toward her.
Leila is an amazing heroine for Vlad. She has had this horrible accident that left her body scarred and she can shock people with just one touch. She can’t lead a normal life but she still tries to anyways. She is very strong, smart and I couldn’t help but connect with her. The chemistry between the two of them was palpable and I envied her every time that she was with Vlad. The story itself was action-packed with just the right amount of romance and sexual tension. This was a great book and I’m hoping there will be more coming about Vlad and Leila because I didn’t want this book to end and I can’t wait to read more.
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch.
