Virgin River is a quiet community where visitors are considered friends and the residents become family. Connor Danson came to Virgin River as part of the Witness Protection Program after witnessing a murder outside his hardware store. He is currently in hiding until he testifies at the murder trial and has accepted a position at Haggerty Construction to establish his new identity. Leslie Petruso, on the other hand, is running away from her ex-husband and the new family he has created in her old town of Grants Pass. She had worked for Haggarty Construction as their office manager where she lived before and this new change of scenery is exactly what Leslie needs to start a new life.
Leslie and Connor meet and the sexual attraction is instantaneous. Both aren't looking for romance but it may be exactly what they both need. Connor finds that he is falling in love with Leslie while Leslie finds that Connor brings out the strong, independent woman that she has always wanted to be. Love is in the air in Virgin River and this may be the perfect opportunity for this young couple to find the true happiness that they have been searching for all along.
I always enjoy the "Virgin River" novels and this is a great addition to the growing series. Leslie has always felt that she played second fiddle in her relationships, especially the one with her ex-husband. For some reason, he felt that they could be close friends after he cheated on her and couldn't understand why she no longer wanted anything to do with him. Greg, her ex, was an absolute jerk in this story and he deserved everything that he got. Leslie has a great scene where she uses a fire extinguisher at Jack's place that will leave you laughing.
Connor was a great romantic lead. He had spent most of his life taking care of his sister and her family and couldn't imagine being without Leslie once they had met. I could understand that he was afraid that Leslie would be hurt if his whereabouts were found out before he could testify and the reluctance to let Leslie know the truth about his identity. The love scenes between these two are very hot and steamy and you could feel the chemistry coming off the pages. Nobody was more deserving of a happy ending than these two.
I really enjoyed this book and I loved the little updates regarding past characters from some of the past "Virgin River" novels. This is a delightful novel that will leave you wanting to visit Virgin River for many years to come.
Sick of running into her cheery ex-husband and his new wife, Leslie Petruso accepts a job at the Virgin River branch of Haggerty Construction and takes the high road right out of town. Now she’s got Paul Haggerty’s business running like a well-oiled machine. In fact, things are so busy Paul jumps at the chance to hire an extra set of hands.
Just like Leslie, Andy Jeffries has been burned by love. But Leslie was disappointed by her relationship going bad, Andy was decimated. He’s got no time for woman...although he spends an awful lot of time pretending not to notice Leslie. And she’s pretty busy “ignoring” the chemistry between them.
According to Andy and Leslie, they have only one thing in common—they’re done with love. But everyone in Virgin River can see that things are heating up at Haggerty Construction. And as far as Paul Haggerty can tell, the best thing he can do is hang on to his hard hat and watch the sparks fly!
