Devil Without a Cause

Faith McFarland has received the worst news that a parent can ever hear. Her four-year-old son has a brain tumor and may not have much time left to live. Desperate and heartbroken, Faith is approached by the Devil who promises her that he can save her child in return for doing a favor for the Prince of Darkness. Faith must steal a ring from the legendary rock star, Finn Payne, and all her problems will disappear. Faith agrees to this dangerous deal and sets out to seduce Finn to obtain the ring that will save her son's life. Little does Faith know that Finn has also made a deal with the Devil and once the ring is given back, Finn loses everything and will sentenced to damnation in Hell for eternity. When Finn meets Faith, he is instantly attracted to her and feels that maybe she is the one that is finally interested in him for who he really is, instead of glitz and glamor that everyone else finds so attractive.

Faith steals the ring from Finn after their wonderful night together and she wishes that she could have met Finn under different circumstances. When Finn realizes that the ring is missing, the Devil tells him that he has until Monday to get the ring back or he is collecting on his deal. Faith also has until Monday to return the ring to the Devil in a religious ceremony or her son's tumor may mysteriously reappear. The two end up together for the weekend trying to gain possession of the ring for good before the Devil returns to collect on their agreements. The only problem is that Faith and Finn can't fight their feelings for one another and this arrangement may lead to more than they both bargained for. Falling in love.

I have been a big fan of Terri Garey's Nicki Styx series for a while now and when I saw that Sammy "The Devil" was getting his own series, I was thrilled. I loved this book not only for the storyline of Faith and Finn, but also the fact that we got to see another side of Sammy. In my opinion, he wasn't cruel and evil as he was originally made out to be, but had true feelings for Nicki and was looking for a chance at redemption. When Gabriel offered him the opportunity to try to save Faith's soul in return for Gabriel putting in a good word to the "One," he took it but created his own twist to the situation. The theme of sacrifice and redemption runs through the course of this book among the characters who are all looking for a chance to make up for their past mistakes. Faith and Finn were a great couple and I liked how the novel ended, even with the tables turning a little bit on the Devil. I can't wait to read the next one in this series.
