Chaos Burning

A Bound By Magick Novel, #2

Lark Jaansen, a hunter for the Clan Gennessee, has been sent to Seattle to help Clan Owen in the fight against the mages kidnapping witches for a sinister force. Small and pixie like, Lark has the heart of a warrior and can take down any threat that crosses her path. That all changes when she meets Simon Leviathan, a handsome and sexy man that brings out more in Lark than just being a warrior for her Clan. With his help, Lark is determined to defeat this deadly foe and protect her fellow witches and possibly create a future with Simon that she has only dreamed about.

This is Lauren Dane’s second novel in the Bound by Magick series and I absolutely adored her first one. For me, Chaos Burning started off a little slow and I was having a hard time relating to Lark. It took some time for her to grow on me and by the end of the novel, I loved Lark and saw her as this great character. She was such a strong person in her job but because of what she did, she never felt that she could find someone that was perfect for her. Then, in comes Simon.

I loved Simon from the first novel and I was glad that he finally met someone that was worthy of him. Being a werewolf made it hard for him to find someone that could deal with his lifestyle and I enjoyed the scenes between the two because their strong personalities caused them to butt heads on every little thing.

The action in this book is amazing and watching Lark fight as a hunter will leave you breathless. She is a force to be reckoned with and the menace that they have to face in this book will give you nightmares. I will admit there were a couple of scenes in this book that shocked me and I never even saw it coming. Besides my issues with Lark in the beginning, I enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the third book in the series. I love Lauren’s work and I can’t wait to see where she takes the rest of the story.

Book Blurb for Chaos Burning

The life of Lark Jaansen, hunter in Clan Gennessee, has been shaped by violence and unrest and it defines her future. Well-trained and resilient, she’s met her militaristic match in Simon Leviathan, a warrior not of this world. Locked in mutual admiration, and a desire so hot it burns, Lark and Simon have something else in common: they love the dark, and as a shadow is cast over their world, they’re each coming into their own.

A mysterious war has been waged among the Others. As witches and humans turn against each other, as fae retreat in fear, and as vampires rise, Lark and Simon discover that an unseen force is behind it. A single, hungry entity older than recorded history has returned to gorge on the magick of his victims. He is the Magister, nothing less than the end of time. Finding him is Lark and Simon’s first hope. Surviving him is their last.
