Blood on the Bayou

Annabelle Lee is a Fairy Containment and Control agent and has been known to be immune to fairy venom which has helped her in past investigations. She is now being asked by her ex-lover, Hitch, to help with discovering the whereabouts of a secret weapons lab and the culprit behind the murder of a FBI agent. Annabelle is trying desperately to cover her new fairy venom induced magical abilities from everyone around her including Hitch. She injects herself with a mysterious serum from the Big Man to help keep the hallucinations and fairy induced madness that comes from being bitten under control. She agrees to help Hitch with his investigation but the more she becomes involved with the assignment, the more she finds that the people that she once trusted have become her worst enemies.

This novel absolutely blew me away. It picks right up after the ending of “Dead on the Delta” and Annabelle is dealing with the aftermath of those events. She has been bitten by a fairy and has to take mysterious injections to prevent her from slipping into fairy-induced madness. Her relationship with Cane is on hold because of what happened with Hitch and she isn’t quite sure what is happening in her love life. So, when Hitch asks her for help, she isn’t sure what to do. She still has feelings for him because their relationship didn’t end well and they still have some unresolved issues left to deal with there. But she agrees to help him and she gets more than she bargained for with this assignment. This book is a roller-coaster ride from beginning to end and there is absolutely no way that I would want to live in Annabelle’s world. It is just too scary and you have no idea who to trust until it is almost too late. Great book.

First came a terrorist attack. Then the mutations—and Fey who had lived in harmony with humans turned deadly. Now most people hide behind iron gates. But those who are immune—and those with enough courage—can venture out into the Louisiana Delta . . . and a nightmare world of magic.

Annabelle Lee, a Fairy Containment and Control agent with immunity to fairy venom, is once again called upon to help solve a murder deep in the bayou. But this one’s off the books. Her ex-lover, Hitch, needs her help searching for a secret chemical weapons lab and an FBI mole providing it with human lab rats.

Helping Hitch means certain interpersonal disaster with her estranged boyfriend, but Annabelle knows what it feels like to be a lab rat. Her new fairy-attack-induced paranormal abilities seem to have few negative side effects, but would that change if she stopped injecting herself with the mystery drug delivered to her by the even more mysterious—not to mention ridiculously attractive—Tucker? A man who can turn invisible at will, and who makes no bones about how dead she’ll be if she reveals his secrets?

As the murder investigation progresses, Annabelle quickly learns Tucker isn’t the only one with secrets, and that the only things that cut deeper than a friend’s deception are the lies we tell ourselves.
