Evie Duggan moves into Pennyroyal Green after the death of her husband and tries to start fresh in new surroundings. She meets Vicar Adam Sylvaine who is instantly attracted to Evie but has vowed to resist any temptation. The more time that he spends with the lovely Countess brings forth forbidden desire and he may jeopardize everything just to share a romantic moment with this scandalous woman.
This is the seventh novel in the Pennyroyal Green series and it was a nice romantic tale filled with humor about love between two very unlikely people. Evie was trying start anew after the death of her husband but everywhere she went was tainted with gossip and discrimination because of her “soiled” past. I loved Evie’s humor and sheer determination to prove herself amongst this community, no matter what obstacle they had put in her way. Adam, the town Vicar, didn’t seem right for her in the beginning because of his position in the church but he was the only one who could see the true woman behind all the stories. I also was impressed by Evie’s character and that she came from such humble beginnings and had to do whatever was necessary to survive even though it was considered scandalous. A wonderful installment in this delightfully romantic series.
Long has created a fabulous series set against the feud of the wealthy Eversea and Redmond families of Pennyroyal Green, Sussex. There will be plenty of romance, scandal, and interconnecting characters to enthrall any fan of Regency-set novels!
