After being banished from the Fading Lands for trying to save their people, Rain and Ellysetta now try to complete their bond before the High Mage of Eld claims Ellysetta's soul for darkness. As the four Mage Marks Ellysetta bears start to influence her actions and thoughts and the Bond Madness starts to tip Rain into shadow, Ellysetta and Rain travel to the Elves to try and find the answer to saving each other. Though no answers are found, the truth of Ellysetta's past is revealed along with her purpose. But can they be saved? Will Rain and Ellysetta be able to complete their bond and secure the world for light by defeating the Mages of Eld? Or is Ellysetta doomed to become the pawn of the Mage and plunge the world into darkness? Unfortunately or fortunately, readers have to wait for the conclusion of the series as the fifth and final book, Crown of Crystal Flame is released in October.
The whole series is wonderfully written, taking the reader on a journey through colorful and descriptive countries. The characters are individuals that all readers will connect with on one level or another. The inner battles, strengths and weaknesses of each one is unique and consistent through the whole series. Wilson captures the reader’s imagination and heart with the struggles for life and love in the first few pages of each book. To pass up this series is a severe mistake for anyone who loves to read fantasy. Truly this is a series that should be read and reread.
