Sharon Struth’s “The To-Do List” is a story full of many twists and turns. It’s not only a romance, this story has some family drama, mystery, and adventure. The lead, Maggi Harris, has started a new life after catching her husband cheating. Moving to her hometown with her teenage daughter, she starts up a new business. Maggie’s aspirations are great. She is motivated and her store is cute. She’s also a fun character and she has some really funny moments. There is a lot going on in this novel. There is a reality TV show, a writing club, her daughter’s soccer team, and secrets from the past. These keep the plot moving at a quick pace. Some of these twists and plot points were really interesting. Unfortunately, some of them didn’t wrap up in a satisfactory manner for me. I was left wondering about certain twists at the end of the story and would have liked to have a little more resolution.
The Story: Maggie Harris has the chance for a fresh start. After catching her husband cheating, she moves back to her hometown with her teenage daughter, and takes the opportunity to run her aunt’s bookstore. Reconnecting with family and friends is great… until someone starts leaving threatening messages at her bookstore. And she comes face-to-face with Detective Cooper Stanton – the man who loved her and left her when they were in high school. This time though, Cooper is intent on sticking around Maggie as much as possible. But with secrets from their past and threats in their present, can they imagine a future?
Relax, she’s got this…
Maggie Harris has her ultra-organized life well in hand, until she finds her neighbor and husband together, in her bed, and the tight hold she keeps on her world unravels, leaving her grasping for an escape. So how can she refuse when she’s handed the dream job of running her aunt’s bookstore and a chance for a fresh start? Even though the bookstore is in Brockport, Connecticut, her former hometown, and a place she’d vowed to leave behind forever.
When someone breaks into Maggie’s new business and leaves a threat on the wall, Detective Cooper Stanton is assigned the case. It’s been twenty years, but Coop hasn’t forgotten the way Maggie once charmed him at every turn—even with her controlling ways. This time, though, Coop refuses to let her seize the reins. What he doesn’t know is she plans to grab them anyway…and she’s got a secret she never shared.
