The Rancher She Loved

Harlequin American Romance #1456

The premise of Ann Roth’s The Rancher She Loved seemed promising, at first. While Sarah’s search for her biological mother is absorbing, the romance plot seems to lack some depth. Clay has his own interesting backstory, but the histories of both lead characters seem a little vague and their relationship contrasts between moving too slowly and too quickly at various points in the novel. However, the secondary characters are quite entertaining, and provide the small town setting with some charm. The ending of the novel, though, is a bit rushed, and I was hoping that more of the loose ends would be tied up. Again, though the romance plot was lacking, Sarah’s journey is interesting and emotional, and the author really portrays this emotional experience well.

After her mother’s death, Sarah Tigarden discovers that she was adopted and begins a journey to find her biological mother. Her search takes her to the small ranching town of Saddler’s Prairie, where she also has the opportunity to research the local ranchers for an article. However, when she arrives, she gets a flash from the past in the form of rodeo star Clay Hollyer. Three years ago, a passionate kiss from this playboy sent Sarah’s senses reeling, and sent her running away. Fueled by her emotions, Sarah wrote a telling article, which Clay claims ruined his life, as she depicted him as quite the womanizer. Not quite able to forgive Sarah, let alone trust her again, Clay is still drawn into her family drama. Yet that sizzling kiss shadows their every move, and Clay can’t hold out against their simmering passion. Sarah is willing to let Clay have her body, but her heart is off limits. After all, he is the playboy she made him out to be, isn’t he?

A Chance To Prove Himself

Learning that she was adopted is the biggest shock of magazine writer Sarah Tigarden's life. Falling in love with champion bull rider Clay Hollyer is a close second. Years ago, she shared a sizzling kiss with the handsome rodeo star, only to hear that he was a player who enjoyed toying with women. After her profile of Clay called him on his caddish behavior, she never wanted to see him again.

But as Sarah searches for her birth mother, Clay is unexpectedly by her side. Can this really be the same guy she condemned as a womanizer? As she gets closer to learning the stunning truth about her biological mom, Sarah also finds herself getting closer to Clay. Her head tells her it's a mistake…but her heart isn't so sure.
