Stacy Gail's One Hot Second is one steamy read! Chandler and Parker have a sizzling chemistry that leaps through the pages. Gail nicely ties in the aspects of Bitterhorn, including some of the sights and settings we have already encountered in her previous books. If you've read the rest of the Bitterhorn series, you'll realize that the apt setting of "The Nooner" in particular sets the tone for this story. If you haven't read the rest of the series, not to worry, this story stands on its own as well.
I particularly liked the subplot of this book. It was well-developed and I didn't feel that there were any loose threads at the end. I did meet some interesting characters, and I hope we see them again in future books. As for the main characters of this story, I enjoyed Parker's spunky attitude and Chandler's determination.
The main issue I have is that I felt that this story doesn't have the same emotional depth as Starting from Scratch or When There's a Will. I absolutely loved those two stories, so reading this one afterwards may have skewed my view of it. But to be fair, it is part of the same series, so I had similar expectations going into this novel as I did the other two. I have to admit that I did enjoy the other three books in the series a little bit more than this one.
This story really focuses on the physical attraction between the two characters. We do get to see how, for Parker in particular, this changes them fundamentally. But again, this is a more light and sexy story. Yet again, Gail gives us unique characters and wonderfully realistic dialogue. Overall, a fun and spicy read!
Chandler Thorne is on a mission to rebuild his ancestral home and restore a piece of Bitterhorn history. With the persnickety Mayor Weems hounding, he’s determined to get everything just right. This is why he set out to find the best conservation architect to oversee the rebuilding of Thorne Mansion. And Parker Radclyffe is the woman for the job! Chandler is instantly smitten with the architect, and sets out to see if they can light each other’s fires!
As a military brat, Parker has always been enthralled with the stability and history that buildings represent. And it’s her passion to recreate that history when it’s lost. Parker is used to jumping from project to project, and the Thorne Mansion is simply next on the list. But there’s something about Bitterhorn that charms her from the get-go. And her immediate attraction with Chandler Thorne just adds to that. But is there something deeper beyond that sizzling chemistry?
Parker Radclyffe is up against a wall. Thorne Mansion, the mysterious Italianate castle she's come to Texas to restore, isn't the problem. No matter how intriguing the relic is, it's merely an ember compared to the blazing magnetism of its owner, Chandler Thorne.
When his family mansion burned down, Chandler had to watch over a hundred years of proud history go up in smoke. After more than a year, he finally has everything in place to rebuild, including a renowned conservation architect to oversee the restoration. But when he lays eyes on Parker he realizes he's gotten more than he paid for. Maybe more than he can handle.
Parker is a military brat who never sits still long enough to get burned. Chandler is her opposite, a man with deep roots and deeper family secrets. It won't be easy to find the common ground it takes to build a home together, but Chandler is a Thorne in every sense. He plans to stick with Parker until she sees that love is more than worth the risk.
